Fine Grading and Compaction

Grading is the process by which the aggregate stone or granular base is leveled or given a specific slope to promote natural drainage and prevent water from standing. It is meant to essentially emulate the final contours of the finished grade. This work is performed by using heavy machinery like a bulldozer and/or excavator to rough grade an area to within one inch of the finished grade, and then using a grader to complete the finished grading. The base is then compacted with a vibratory roller to achieve the proper density.
